I am running XP Home edition, have a D-Link DI604 router with a desktop,
laptop and XBox connected. When away from the desktop for extended periods,
the LAN connection has to be "repaired". Once "REPAIR" everything runs
smoothly, until an overnight, etc. The Internet Gateway shows DISABLED and
cannot be opened to ENABLE. Any suggestions? Do I need to have the Network
Gateway active?

The Internet Gateway is your D-Link router, and clicking the Internet
Gateway icon lets you monitor and control the router's operation. I
don't think that it's related to the problem.

Does the computer go into Suspend or Hibernation when it isn't used
for extended periods? Some network adapters don't wake up properly
from those modes. The latest driver program from the manufacturer
might help.

The computer might be turning off the network adapter to save power.
Look for a Power Management tab in the network card's properties in
Device Manager, and turn off any power saving option.

Thanks for the info Steve. When away from the computer, O ahve it set to go
to power save. I have turned off the power save in the network adapter.

Should the Internet Gateway show disabled? If so, should I be able to
enable it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

You're welcome, Burbank. The Internet Gateway should show Enabled or
Connected if the router is up and running. However, if Internet
access is working OK, I wouldn't worry about it saying Disabled. The
router might just be reporting its status incorrectly.

OK -- overnight again I could not get an immediate connection. I had to
reboot. Here is my question -- does the Internet Gateway have to be running
in order to use the router? How do I enable it. Is it a router
configuration?

I am open to other suggestions.

Thanks.
