You don't merge databases, so I will assume you want to combine tables,
either within the same database or from two different databases.

You use an append query and you will need to make sure both tables have
the same field definitions. Just follow the prompts in the wizard.

do I open one of the tables first, then do a query. how do I go about this?

Joseph,
You don't merge databases, so.....

Sure you do, if you need to combine two similar databases into one database. Danny J.
Lesandrini, a Microsoft Certified Professional and published author, has an article posted on his
web site with the following title:

"Merge Two Identical Access Databases Into One"

It is the last download located on this page:

You would start by creating a query based on the table you want to add
to the other table. Just include all the fields in the basic query. Take a
look at it in display mode to make sure you see the records and fields you
want to add to the other database. Then go to design mode and select append
query. You will be asked to pick the table you want to append (add) to.
After that you just run the query using the red "!" symbol.
I am very new to this program.

We all started there. We all found out that Access is not easy to
learn, especially at the beginning. Stick with it, it is worth the effort.
