Need to disable share on local hard drive

J

J. McReynolds

Running Win2K...local hard drive is set to share which is
unintentional. When I disable to not allow sharing, this
setting is not retained when the machine is rebooted. I
tried going into Computer Mgmt to delete the share but it
is not allowed, and says it is required for Administrator,
and settings will be restored upon reboot. I have tried
logging on as Admin but that results in the same. I am
the only one that uses the machine. How can I remove the
Admin that is setup?

You can use a registry hack to disable administrative
shares, but you should be careful as this disables
remote management for the machine as well and may
have other side effects.

Browse the registry to HKLM \ System \ CurrentControlSet \
Services \ LanmanServer \ Parameters

Create or modify a dword value "AutoShareWKS" and
leave it set to 0.

Reboot.

You can't delete the administrator user, nor would that help
you.
