Need to Clean (Re)install Windows XP home

I'm attempting to clean install in hopes of gaining space and such on my
computer(why else would one do this) and tried to "Install Windows XP" from
the Operating System disk and it told me that I have a new disk and am
therefore unable to reinstall. Please send some help my way as to how to
wipe my system safely.

You original disk probably doesn't contain sp2.

I actually saw this pack but was like: Noooo, not touching that. Thanks will

I was told by it that Access was denied and it was not uninstalled. Now I
can't even control my own PC! Haha

Boot to Safe Mode, as default Administrator account. My guess would be your
user profile has lost some admin rights.

To "clean install" means to format the partition or disk and install on
a "Clean" partition or disk, all your files will be lost. When you get
to the point where it asks you where to install select the partition on
which you want to install and format it.

The reason you are getting the message is that you have SP2 or SP1
installed, and your CD is without that SP level.

But it doesn't matter,. You are trying to do the installation incorrectly,
and that's why you get the error. If you do it correctly, it formats the
drive, wiping out whatever is there, and what starts out there makes no
difference at all.

You're trying to do the installation from within Windows, and that's what is
wrong. Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if
necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean
installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted,
then create a new one).

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation,, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.
