Need to be able to link to a Password Protected Workbook

Does anyone know how to link an Access table to a password protected Excel
workbook? I can create the link if the Excel workbook is open. However I
cannot open the table in Access unless the workbook is open. Thanks in
advance for your help.

move it from excel to a real database

is it our fault that Excel is mis-used as a database?

keep your DATA in a DATABASE and wean people off of excel
