need serious help

hi a friend of mine was unfortunate enough to have the
mydoom and blaster virus after removing the mydoom virus
i attempted to get rid of the blaster but his pc shut
down and wouldnt load up properly the screen just went
blank and no start up page so we used the recovery disk
which seemed to work but when we went to use the pc on XP
on the start menu there are no programmes just email and
internet but nothing else and i have tried downloading
patches from microsoft but when i do this i get a message
saying that we need to download previous updates first
before activating the patch except we cant because of the
virus. I could really do with someones help is it
possible we have done something wrong. this is a major
problem

Reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch.

howe do i reformat the hard drive, and thats the ohter
issue the pc came with everything installed and they dont
have the discs to re-install it any ideas it was there
when the pc was installed originally but since we
recovedred it

If you don't have any disk, how did you recover it? The first place to look
for how to reinstall xp is the microsoft knowledge base. It's covered in
detail there. Do a little browsing while your there, it's free to use!

we had a recovery disc but there was no disc with
software like works and even the accessories arent there
any more
