need resolution help..have searched!!

GREAT..i dont know why but after i did the autodjustment...now..i had all
kinds of extra resolution to pick...n..i got the one you said..it looks MUCH
better..now..thank u all sooooooooooo much.....if i can figure out the sound
problems i will be set!!

HI choronik,

Me thinks everyone should have the benefit of doubt. I can be pretty
daunting being a novice and having no one around to help. Anyway, the
information given to savvy to help her out could save someone else some grief
who is having the same problems.
 
hello..thank u all..really..i just never had a single problem on xp..things
were good..this thing was really messing me up. i kept trying to change
resolution but there were only three choices...none workeed. after i did that
autoadjusiting..there were a lot more...i have no idea how come..it
works..thanks to all of u!!!

my sound is a problem that i cnnot figre...i have read a ton of stuff..i
have asked people...nothing works.. i want ta do a simple thing..i want to be
able to play music to my friends with my soundcard...i dont have a
nmicrophone...

on xp..i was able to do this easy. just go to audio adjustments..make a
simple change..and it worked...with this vista....i have no luck..

and i have checked..and checked..and wht i see when i go to sounds..like
they say..is NOTHIN at all like what they show in this page...i have taken
screen shots..

in my control panel..there is no audio devices icon..i am in classic
view..like i was told to be..

i have screen shots of that too..i have something called sound but it shows
just whati get if i right click the speaker in the status bar...i am LOST...

i never said i was good with a computer..i was just okay on xp...with the
change..i am losttttttttttttttttttttttttt...

if any of you can help me to find my steror mixer and things it would be
great help ta me.................

You must have a widescreen 17" LCD monitor. If so your native
resolution is 1024x768.

1024x768 is a normal resolution for a standard aspect-ratio monitor,
not a wide-screen.
 
vista is a mess.... its not your fault.. lol

you want to play sounds to your friends using a chat program like live
messenger?

or what?

vista handles sound differently than xp and older windows..

this has cause lots of heaches.....
 
yes...i wanna use it to play music in chat to my friends...i dont have a mic
and dont really wanna get one..cause...i oughta be able to play like i did on
xp.....

You have NOT yet stated exactly what kind of monitor you have (LCD or CRT -
wide screen or normal aspect) and whether you installed the latest video
drivers for your video card.

What kind do you have and did you? You want help please give specifics.

i just got vista. i dont like it....i have a dell 17 in monitor...everything

There is something called "native" resolution when dealing with LCD
monitors. A quick search at Goggle shows your model has a native
resolution of 1280 x 1024. So I would set it to that and leave it.

Check your Dell manual, does this model come with/need a driver?
Probably not, however it may run better with a profile file if Dell
provides one, check their web site.

A BIG factor is your graphics card. For best results you MUST have and
install Vista drivers. Again they should be on Dell's site.

CAUTION... Anytime you replace a video card's drivers you generally
need to REMOVE any other drivers to prevent conficts or to have odd
things happen.

Find a blank spot on your desktop. Right click. In the little window
that pops up do you see any listing for your graphic card? If so,
click on it or see if some Control Panel is at the lower right bottom
of your desktop. If not go to Vista's Control Panel or just right
click on your desktop then pick personalize. Scroll down to where it
shows Display Settings. You probably then will have to click on
advanced settings. Depends on your video card. Change to 1280x1024,
apply, ok.

first...im not a joke..im a real person who was having trouble..not everyones
good with a computer..maybe im just too stupid for everyone to understand..i
only ever used my computer for email and talkin to people....anyways..thanks
for all of your help...richard and adam..the resolutin problem was fixed
about 8 posts ago..thanks to help from the people here..an then they asked
about my sound problem...thats what im havin trobles with now...

Have you right clicked on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area of the
Taskbar to get to the playback and recording devices properties?

You MUST have a microphone to talk to others, either a discrete mic or a mic
built into a web cam.
