need major help please with xp prof

ever since i got dsl 4 weeks ago i am having a lot of problems, i was running with 128 ram ( minimum required) before dsl and i was fine now i got another 256 ( so 394 ram) it is slower i have a lot of windows explorer error it takes a while to start programs and shutting them down while working i have low virtual memory messages ( i installed a new storage 80.0 gb disk drive too not as the primary)
please help

Try a single, high-quality 512 RAM chip.

The obvious thing would be is to remove the new ram module , since this is
one of the starting points of your problems. Try to reinsert the new module
again being careful to seat it all the way in. If you have another slot ,
try it there. Does the computer post the total ram , (384) or close ?
Running the dsl modem and ethernet card will slow down the loading and shut
down of XP .

Try removing the *old* memory module and running with just the new 256
mb module installed.

Does that make any difference in the performance?
