Need info on Core 2 power requirement

Do all Core 2 Duo processors require the 8 pin power supply on the
motherboard or only the Extreme Editions?

My motherboard has the 8 pin connector but came with 4 of the spots
plugged. My power supply ( brand new ) says it does not support the
EPS12V for Extreme Editions but I don't know if the standard editions
require that or not.

Looking at some power supplies on the net, some of them say they have
the EPS12 and are Dual core ready.

I'm confused but don't want to blow a brand new cpu and / or motherboard.

You should ask this question of Intel and the motherboard / power supply
manufacturer.
