There is a free trial version of Office 2003, but I wouldn't advise trying
to download that, even with broadband! Otherwise, no, there is no way to get
Word free. The cheapest way is as part of Works Suite 2005, which includes
Word 2002, Works 8, Encarta 2005, Money 2005, PictureIt! Premium 10, and
Streets & Trips 2005, for as little as $70 after the mail-in rebate. See http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=001

OpenOffice OTOH... http://openoffice.org
There is no LEGAL way to get OpenOffice that you have to pay for. If
you paid[0] for OpenOffice, it is illegal.
[0] I'm not talking about shipping&handling for boxed versions.

If it has an "X" in the name, it must be Linux?
