need help with windows

Hello,

My computer : p4,xpsp2,30G,128 ATI card, 366 M memory.

I am having an on-going problem in that the computer reacts very slowly if I
have a few programs running. Even though CPU usage is quite low. Tests for
memory,disks,monitor and viruses all passed.

Today, I was running Azureus and an Edwido scan and the problem started
again. Only when the scan finished did the system return to normal. Anyway
while the test was running I managed to catch a screenshot.

TIA for your advice.:)

oops... I forgot to say also OneCare was running and I was moving the window
around. I think it may be the video card but games, and videos play okay and
my display settings are modest as well.

Mani,

The Problem is not your video card. The problem is you are using up all of
your memory. From the screenshot I can see that your system is down to 14
MB's of free memory. 366(384 more likely) MB of memory is just not enough
for what you are trying to accomplish. Running one scan will take up quite a
bit of memory but you were running 3 scans all at once. If you choose to do
multiple scans then you need to leave your computer and plan on giving it a
while. The best option would be to run 1 scan at a time. You should also
consider adding memory to your computer. In todays world most computers come
with 512 minimum. Good Luck,

Joe

Thanks Kemco for your input. I was only running Edwido(scan), Azureus, Paint
and OneCare was loaded but not running. I think 384 Mb should run three
applications okay, but at least I now know what needs upgrading. Thx again.

Mani,

One Care is a complete Internet security suite it may not be running a
complete scan but it is always running real time scans as any other full
internet security software does. Then running an Ewido scan on top of it
plus having Paint and azureus open. Azureus would be running file sharing
and seeding your files I imagine. Plus any and all software running in the
background including ones started at system startup, I see skype and a couple
others running in your taskbar. This is why I suggest you get more memory or
do some research into how to clean up your startup and temporary files. A
good tool in accomplishing both of these tasks is CCleaner it can be found at:

Good Luck,

That's a clue.

Virus/malware scans can tax your system. And your RAM ain't all that
much by today's standards.

I would suggest that you have your AV/AM software do their scans at
times when you are unlikely to be using your computer.
