Need help with Vista Home Basic

I got 2 questions really. I am buying the computer from somebody. I have xp
pro on mine but I need better specs to run a software for one of my classes.
My problem is when I get on the pc with vista a pop up comes up saying
Windows Explorer has stopped working. Then another comes up after that one
saying Windows Explorer is restarting. It keeps doing this over and over. I
know what is causing it but can not delete it. How can I fix this. Which
brings me to my next question. I am aware I may have to reformat the hard
drive. That would be no problem since all that I have put on it is not really
important to me. I would lose a few things but nothing big to worry about.
Now I do not have the boot up disc and need to know where I can get a copy or
if my friends copy of it, which is for his laptop, would work for my desktop
pc. I do not have the one with vista hooked up to my cable modem but I have.
I have had it hooked up other wise I would not have this problem. The problem
is starting to get on my nerves. I really need to start looking into the
software I need but can not with out the pc. Any help or ideas? I have tried
to get to the control panel to get into the uninstall program but the pop up
pops up before I can get to what I need.

You'll need to purchase your own "Full Version" copy
of Windows Vista and perform a clean install.

If all else fails, you can always try system restore, its easier than
reformatting:

- Hold down CTRL, ALT, and DELETE and the same time
- Choose task manager from the menu
- Click File -> Run
- Type: c:\windows\system32\rstrui.exe
- Click OK
