Need help with sound.

Hi folks,

I all of a sudden have a problem with my sound.
It sounds like I'm in a bathroom.
A very enoying echo.
Does anybody know how to correct this?

What type of sound card? Any special sound effects, e.g.,
echo, and environmental settings, e.g., large auditorium,
set up in the mixer section for the sound card? Is the
output from the sound card for normal stereo or surround
sound for movies? Check out all the possible variables?

I have a normal stadard soundcard.
You can only ( as far as I know) turn on or off the sound via the control
panel and then sound and audio devices.
