Need help with IDE RAID

Nate

Hello all,

I just purchased a HighPoint RocketRAID 404 card, and 2 new WD 120GB Special
Edition HD's. I had a previous install of windows XP on a 20GB Maxtor
drive. I created a disk image using Powerquest Drive image 2002 of the
Maxtor drive. I then copied the image to the RAID1 array I created on the
new WD drives.

Now the problem. It won't boot. I set the right disk to boot in the RAID
controller settings utility, and I set the BIOS on my motherboard to boot
from a SCSI/IDE device. This setting worked fine with my old SCSI
controller and disk, so I know it's right. The system attempts to boot. It
shows the initial windows XP logo, but then the system auto restarts itself.
Then the next time, it asks to start normally, safe mode, and all the other
options.

What is the problem?

Do I have to do a clean install of XP on the RAID1 array, hit F6 when it
asks, and install the RAID driver then? Or should the system be booting?
The HighPoint manual doesn't say anything about having to do this.

Thanks for any help,
Nate

The problem is that the raid drivers are not installed. Probably don't
need to do a clean install. Do a repair install, and hit f6 when it
asks for drivers. It will repair the installation by adding the
driver. You will also have to do the microsoft update again as some of
them get overwritten by a repair install.
