Hi,

I need some help.

When Windows XP starts up. Just as the desktop shows up there is an
error message.

It states, "The application, or DLL C:\Windows\System32\msiehelper.dll is
not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation
diskettes."

I have a HP Pavilion 521N. There are 8 diskettes to restore the system.
I don't know which one to check. I don't want to wipe out the hard drive
as there is stuff on it that I do not wish to lose. I have tried
deleting the mentioned dll. However is just keeps coming back.
I have tried SFC /SCANNOW. But it came back. I thought that
reinstalling Internet Explorer would solve the problem, but can't get it
to install. Something about the system waiting to reboot to finish a
install. I have rebooted many times. I have turned it off, and
restarted an hour later.

When I click on the okay button the message goes away, and everything
seems to be okay.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Thanks for any input on this problem.

Thank you for your help. I did a Google search for Langa List. Clicked
on the first one listed. It started to open a page. Then said to wait.
Then Porn stuff started popping up. Got out of there as fast as I could.
Still it put that virus on my computer.

Another question you might know the answer to. Where can I find a back-
up program that will back-up a program installation for me? Freeware of
course. It would back-up a program, and all of the links and registry
entries to another hard-drive. Then I could format C:\ and reinstall
Windows XP.

Thank You for helping me.

You could try this, I dont know how good it is
http://www.xxclone.com/
Also many hd manu have a free utility on their sites, together with
instructions
The above utilities clone a sys drive, I dont believe there are any
utilities to backup 'just a program' and its various reg entries.
Be aware if there is a problem on your sys the problem will be reproduced in
the 'clone'
