With endnotes I am citing multiple references to a sentence. for instance:

Bob the cat went outside.1,2,3,4 (in superscript)

I would rather have this read:
Bob the cat went outside. 1-4 (in superscript)

I am citing up to nine references at once for some sentences, so you can see
the the number, number format gets a little lengthy.

Suggestions?

Select the ones you don't want to be displayed and choose "hidden" as
text option in the font panel (same place where you would select
superscript).

Insert all the footnotes in succession, without intervening punctuation.
Then type an en dash after the first footnote reference or before the last
one. Select all the references between the first and last and format them as
Hidden text (Ctrl+Shift+H). But note that a preferable approach is to
combine all the references in a single endnote, separated by semicolons.
