need help with copying files over to new pc with vista!

i recently just bought a new dell with vista premium. i took the hard drive
out of my old hp and slipped it into an external hard drive that works via
usb. so ive been copying files from my old hard drive onto the new one with
this external hard drive (that contains my old hp hard drive). Well the big
problem has been with copying over my mp3s, like my itunes library mainly.
When i move these folders from the external drive and copy them to my hard
drive, the files all show up but some are corrupted (the names show, but they
wont play or open at all). It seems the more files i copy at once the more
files are corrupted and dont work after being copied. I tried copying files
one by one and it worked (took hours) only to later restart my pc and realize
all the files that i had copied, that were working fine, were now corrupted.
I cannot get these files to copy over right. Its like some sort of weird bug
in vista or explorer that is making theses mp3s not copy over correctly. I
havent had any problems with any other types of files to my knowledge as i am
still working on transferring over all the files i need on my new pc. I was
just wandering if anyone has had this problem or knows something im doing
wrong or a way to fix this, its really frustrating having this problem and i
do not want to resort to having to rip songs one cd at a time off all my cds
again to my itunes. so any advice, help or support would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

I am also having the same issues. I was told by someone that it is a Vista
issue conflicting with Itunes. My files are there but they won't play. But
I do not know how to fix. If you find out please let me know. I also cannot
play DVD movies with Windows Media Center it just starts and then stops. I
too am very frustrated.

i havent had any problems playing dvds through media center, but my mp3s wont
even play through winamp. i think its some sort of explorer problem. one
minute they work fine, then after restart they turn out like corrupted, like
they wont play at all, even though the file size stays the same.... hmmm....
i really like vista so far but the few problems ive had with it are seriously
making me thinking about downgrading. i just hope microsoft is working on
these problems and trying to get this fixed as they are very frustrating.
