need help with copy-paste malfunction

Windows XP System.
My copy-paste function works but it stops working after a while. I have to
restart my computer to reactivate it. The same happens again, and
again.....

What tools do you have available for an attempt at a repair. Restore?,
Backup?, Reinstall?

Thanks. I did Restore but that did not change the situation.
