need help! trying to remove and re-install windows installer

Hi,
I am in installer 'heck'. I am on xp sp3 and i have installed windows
installer 4.5...i need to get rid of it and go back to the one in sp3. the
problem is that it does not show up in add/remove programs so I cannot remove
it. I have tried 'windows installer cleanup' but it is not listed there
either.

Is there a way to remove installer manually so I can then re-apply sp3 ?

you might try initiating
a system restore point
made before the installer
was installed.

however, I wouldn't
under estimate the issues
that anti virals create.

so you might want to
disable them then retry
your sp3 download.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, but I do not have ANY virus protect currently. And
unfortunately, i don't have a restore point to go to either.

Use Step 4 here and see if the script uninstalls WI 4.5:
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=33406

If joy, then reboot and download WI 3.1 from the link in the article.
Save it, then close everything and install it.
Reboot again.
Did that work ?

BTW, why did you disable System Restore ? This is one of those
situations when it's very useful
