1) Download the following three items...

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Adaware SE (personal free version)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download sysclean.com and place it in that directory.
Dowload the signature files (pattern files) by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt224.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
sysclean.com.

2) Update Adware with the latest definitions.
3) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
4) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
5) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors/parasites found.
(a few cycles may be needed)
6) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both the
Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware
7) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
8) Reboot your PC.
9) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point

You can also try some of the below online scanners.

No -- I won't. But thanx anyway.

Let me tell you something -- I rarely ever use my killfile. Currently, I
only have a single entry in it: a bot that posts all too often for my
liking. However, you're about to become my second entry because:

o you often massively over-quote;
o you sometimes cross-post silly, unnecessary virus warnings;
o you top-post and
o when politely asked to read an article which discusses how to post
considerately, you refused to.

In fact, your posts remind me somewhat of the annoying spam messages I get
in my inbox every day.

I hope for the benefit of other netizens who haven't plonked you that you
learn the errors of your ways, but I certainly won't be holding my breath.

Aw, please?
I have read more articles than I care to expound upon and I've been
on the Internet since the mid '80's when I started with CompuServe.
I choose to post the way I do I don't don't need some newbie to
tell me otherwise

What would you say if another person who had a very very low
CompuServe number asked you to read that page? :)

For you maybe. For the faux Edison - No.

I was; 75730,775 and I used it to access a.c.v ~1990.

That's my preference and I will continue to do so. RFC's may define protocols for

suggestion, not a rule. Who are you, Emily News Post -- defender of netiquette ?

First, CompuServe is not Usenet/Internet News so I don't see the relevance,
except that you may be trying to establish you are a boring old git who is
too stuck in his ways to adapt.

However, if your point is simply that you've been around for a long time,
then I've been reading and posting to news since the mid/late 80s and
"way back then" top-posting, excessive quoting, etc, etc was universally
frowned upon by anyone who was not a newbie.

Further, top-posting in news only started to become "fashionable" as more
and more moron newbies started using shite clients. This was especially
the case with early versions of OE which were designed to replicate the
top-posting, full-quoting idiocy of MS' earlier, even crappier corporate
Email clients rather than to "fit into" any established "Internet culture"
(I half suspect this was a deliberate decision taken to piss off those who
were established on "the net" as "punishment" for Bill and creww entirely
missing the frigging obvious for so long... ). A similar tend
started in Email slightly earlier, as more and more shitty, non-RFC-
compliant MS (and other) corporate Email systems were hooked up to the
Internet via gateways, the better of which tried to fix the worst of the
non-compliance issues, which of course, were mainly limited to header
(de-)mangling and content encapsulation issues.

That top-posting and gross over-quoting is so widely accepted as to have
almost become the norm is, sadly, a reflection of the dominance of
exceptionally crappy default client s/w from the taste-, style- and
history-devoid Redmond gorilla of mediocrity that has passed as adequate
s/w developement for way too long...

Nick:

You really need to express your opinions more. ;-)

The DOS and later Win16 (WinCIM ?) CompuServe software had an excellent front-end to UseNet
News Groups.

It is not "pretentious" of me to state that I have read so called netiquette articles over
the dozen plus years I have been on the Internet. I have received idiotic comments about
the Top Posting <--> Bottom Posting BS argument for years. You know that. You have
participated them in the past. The faux Edison is not new. Just because he wants me too
I'm not going to read another netiquette web site. Pretentious ? I don't think so.

CompuServe has been around since the mid '80s and I became a member circa 1990. It was
during that period of using the DOS CompuServe Information Manager that I started accessing
UseNet via CompuServe.

Actually we are about at the 10th anniversary of a.c.v. It was started right about
Halloween of '94. I think at that time I had quit CompuServe and joined a local
$20.00/month Dial-Up ISP.

After re-reading my reply I can see how you infer I meant accessing a.c.v in '90.

Man eating shark -- Can be taken in two contexts. A man consuming the a shark and the
shark eating the man.
Sorry for the misperception, I could have written that reply *much* better.

Yes, pretentious. You.

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Usenet poster
is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three
best friends. If they're okay, then it is you.
pretentious
adj 1: making claim to or creating an appearance of (often
undeserved) importance or distinction;
[ant: unpretentious]
2: intended to attract notice and impress others

That's a ridiculous claim but it's not surprising this is a bit too
complicated for you.

I wouldn't normally bother someone about their posting style. I suppose
that I see David as someone who isn't really a newbie to computing or
Usenet, yet to me he posts just like one (and this has some negative
repercussions, as mentioned in the article).

Note that the main reason for my reply was the over-quoting, not the
top-posting.

In any case, all I asked was that he consider reading the article. :)

This analogy sums up the situation for me:

David is a wise pedestrian who often helps people out with any trouble they
might encounter in the streets. However, he has a rather anti-social trait
in that he drops litter everywhere while doing so.

Hello,

Can't seem to find a cure for these popuppers.com windows that pop up every
so often. Below is the log from Hijackthis. Just don't know what to remove
or what I should do next. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi - I was having the same problem, and after trying numerous free
spyware programs, purchased Norton Internet Security 2005 (With
Antivirus and Antispam) and it got rid of Poppuppers. I never did
figure out, nor try to really , what spyware files were popuppers ...
but Norton found and deleted it apparently.
Good luck-
