Need Help Recovering Files

R

Richard K

I have done and add/remove of a program from my Win xp Pro computer. After I
did this I was told in there are a set of user config files in the
c:\program files\(app)\(app subfolder)\(user config files) that I need.
There is nothing in the recycle bin. Is there any way to recover the folder
(app subfolder) and it's contents (user config files)?

Thanks!

Recuva is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that
have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This
includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as
images and other files that have been deleted by user error
from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will
even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs,
crashes and viruses!

- Simple to use interface - just click 'Scan' and choose the
files you want to recover
- Easy to use filter for results based on file name/type
- Simple Windows like interface with List and Tree view
- Can be run from a USB thumb drive
- Restores all types of files, office documents, images,
video, music, email, anything.
- Supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 , NTFS + EFS
file systems
- Restores files from removable media (SmartMedia, Secure
Digital, MemoryStick, Digital cameras, Floppy disks, Jaz
Disks, Sony Memory Sticks, Compact Flash cards, Smart
Media Cards, Secure Digital Cards, etc.)
- Restores files from external ZIP drives , Firewire and
USB Hard drives
- It's fast, tiny and takes seconds to run!

Yes, you can try to recover the folder and subfolders with their
contents with Easy File Undelete:

http://www.munsoft.com/EasyFileUndelete/

It uses unique modern algorithms to recover files that other software
either recovers incorrectly or is unable to detect.

The program needs to be installed, if the OP installs the program he may
very well overwrite the very files he wants to recover! The OP should
*NOT* write anything to the drive where the files to be recovered are
located. The recovery program should be run from a floppy or thumb
drive or the disk should be accessed from another operating system!

"Deleting" a file doesn't actually delete it; it just marks the space
as available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to become overwritten very quickly, and this makes
the file unrecoverable.

So your chances of successfully recovering this file are decent if you
try recovering it immediately after deleting it, and rapidly go
downhill from there. If you've been using the computer since then (for
example to write this question and read this answer), your chances are
probably very poor by now.

But if the file is important enough, it's worth a try anyway. Stop
using the computer in question immediately, if you haven't done so
already. Download an undelete program (here's one:
http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html but there are several
others to choose from; do a Google search) on a friend's computer and
bring it to yours on a floppy to try.

If this fails, your only other recourse is to take the drive to a
professional file recovery company. This kind of service is very
expensive and may or may not work in your case.
