Need help on choosing Anti-Virus/Firewall Software

I am looking for antivirus software and for a firewall.
I've been considering TrendMicro bundle, but on this NG there are
contradictory
opinions.

Can you tell me your experiences with Symantec, F-Secure, McAfee,
TrendMicro?
Which one would you recommend?

Avast anti virus -----Free
Zone Alarm -----Free
Linksys Router ----- $40
Don't open email attachments ----Free

I have never had a problem with this in place.

have you tried service pack 2 for windows xp, its firewall is decent, and
free

I have just installed SP 2 RC 2. It seems OK and the firewall allows
exceptions on particular ports (which can help in setting up P2P client).
So, the A-V choice still remains. Very curious about Avast. Trying to get
some more info on how it compares to others.
