NEED HELP: How to fix WinXP Pro+SP2 ICS Problems

D

Donald Bock

Hi:

I'll get right to the point:

I need to know how to reinstall the updated files from SP2 over the ones
which came with WinXP Pro+SP1?

Specifically, I removed a botched SpamWare program Spyware Doctor from a
system which had all Microsoft-approved update patches.

When I rebooted, I got a DNS error, so I went to Control Panel->
Add/Remove Windows Components and remmoved the Network, Rebooted and
reinstalled the Network with the components from Network files belonging
to an WinXP Pro+SP1 install.

Sometimes when I choose Windows Firewall in Control Panel, I get a
warning saying Windows ICS cant be started; I don't use ICS--never did.

Additionally, my Taskbar theme turns into the one shown for Windows
Classic Style: Yellow-white.

The ONLY way I solve this now is to reboot 2-3 times and it goes alway.
Thanks for any clues to solve this, Donald
My TCP/IP stack is ok as I can use the Net.

No, I get no Error 1060

I was thinking to: use Start->Help & Support: Remove ICS, looking at the
files and etracting from SP2 Update file, then installing where
necessary. Wish I could find a Net FixIt program to check for what a
full-blown WinXPSP2-ed OS would be.
Thanks, Donald
