Need Help Going To Domain

I need to switch over from a workgroup to a domain. I am purchasing and
installing a Win2003 server.

I read that when switching, a new user folder is created. This is not bad
for desktops, but what about laptops?

If a user goes home and tries to acess the files on their laptop, do they
need to go into a different folder on their hard drive?

Is there a way to point to the existing folder instead of creating a new
domain folder? Some users have a ton of data on their computer.

Thank You

You should re think keeping "a ton of data" on the local computer.

Consider setting up home folders on the server for each user where only they
have access. Have users save to this folder instead of their local drive.

You will only have to backup the server. You will not have to worry about
backing up a users computer and the user turned it off and the backup
doesn't run. You will not have to backup over the network. If each
workstation has it's own backup device and software, keeping the files on
the server and only backing up the server will cut down on the cost to do
backups.

If a user goes home and tries to access the files on their laptop, do they
need to go into a different folder on their hard drive?

Look into "offline files".

You set the laptop to "logon" with "cached credentials, and until the time
they reconnect to the "domain".
