Need help creating a fillable templet

I am trying to create a templet for the whole company to use that will allow
everyone to fill in certain information but nothing else. So far I have
figured out how to add in the fillable spaces on the form toolbar but its not
working out exactly how I want it to. I don't want Word to move the lines
around if they type more too many letters in the boxes and I want it to be
more professional looking.

Any help will be great! Thank You!!

Suzanne's link is excellent for info on forms. I saved the info (e-mailed
it to myself) for reference. IT's been a long time since I did this sort of
thing (I am retired).

However - simply put -- you create your firm as a template - define your
form fields and click on the properties button (FORMS toolbar). You will
see (upper left) the TYPE (regular text, Number, Date, etc.) - depending on
what you select from that list, the Default and format windows will display
accordingly. It currently is set for Date. If you had selected regular
text, the format would be ALL CAPS, lowercase, Initial Cap, etc. - Under the
dropdown list (you can't see it) is another window where you can set the
amount of text -- Unlimited, or a set number for characters. For instance,
the number could be 15 or 20, etc. I make full use of the "Add Help
Text..." and create my own. When the form is actually in use (locked /
protected) whatever text you set up for a given field will show up in the
bottom lower left status bar. This helps people know what to type in each
field. Sort of a reminder. You can accept the default bookmark or call it
something you can relate to. I was doing a specific date field on the form
I am working on, hence, the name in the window. There is a lot more you can
do with it (writing a macro to accompany the action taken), and I used to do
that but as I said, it's been awhile and I have to jog my memorie's filing
cabinets! <G>

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at

And yes, you should save it as a template. Then your users would create new
documents based on it rather than "open" it. For more on the different kinds
