My computer was acting goofey so I re-installed Windows XP home with
out reformatting my hard drive. Now when I started my computer I seem
to have lost all of my settings, programs, email mesages, multimedia,
etc. Since I did NOT reformat the hard drive everything should be on
my computer, but I cannot find it!

Please help!!!

Thanks!

Eddie G

If you re-installed, and not repair installed, then you've lost all
your entries in Documents and Settings, where the My Documents folder
is stored by default. It looks like you have lost your stuff.

This is why back-ups are so important.

I did as you suggested, but my old profile is NOT listed per the help
instructions for Copy User Profile. Taking Ownership did not help
either.

Like I said in an earlier post, I found my old My Documents file. I now
need to find out how to get the system to look at the old folder
instead of the new one that was created.

Then just end the debate. Drag the files from the old My Documents
folder to the newly created one for the new profile. Sheesh.

I copied the My Documents folder but that didn't work. Is there a
registry entry I can change to point to the old folder, or a start up
file (like win.ini or something) that can be edited?

Thanks,

Eddie G

Copy/paste the CONTENTS, not the folder. Paste the contents into the
"My Documents" folder in your new profile, and overwrite any existing
files/folders. Job done.
