Need Formula to return an "x" into a cell

Hiya,

I'm trying to create an IF formula that looks at the one spreadsheet tracking employee courses and the date they completed them. If there is a date in the cell I want to return an 'x' into a cover sheet showing they've completed the course. I've tried :=IF(G.Livingstone!F11!,_>0], [THEN"x"]) but know it's not right. Any ideas? (G.Livingstone is the name of the sheet where the date course completed is)
