Need drivers/software for UMAX Astra 2000U

N

NotMe

I'm in need drivers/software for UMAX Astra 2000U for a small NP
organization.

We have W98SE but would like to be able to use this with XP and Mac OS 10 if
possible.

I purchased the software from UMAX (no refund no return no work).

Umax Software downloads, Germany has English language software.
http://www.umax.de/support/treiber.htm

It will cost 2.99 Euro for the complete software. 2.99 Euro is about $3.99
US Dollars.

Thanks for the responce.

The UMAX site I downloaded wanted considerably more but regardless of the
price it did not work and UMAX is not concerned nor will they support. (sale
is were is as is no refund no credit).

As for myself I don't plan on buying any thing more from UMAX. Were it not
for the fact that the scanner belongs to a NP (and low budget) group I'd
recommend they toss it for a better scanner.

I've been using a 1200S SCSI scanner for many many years. It's worked very
well in W98 and W2K. Your saying software but are you talking about The
TWAIN driver or the managing software? The TWAIN driver for the 1200S is
called Vista Scan. The document managing software that came with it is
Presto Pagemanager. The driver can be used in any TWAIN compliant
application.What's the problem?

Windows(even XP) is notorious for problems with it's USB drivers and would
be what I'd look at first. Sometimes just reinstalling them helps. Don't
assume they don't have a problem because they don't show having any. If it's
a USB problem you may be in the same boat with another brand. Uninstall all
the scanner wares before reinstalling the USB driver. A lot of times the
scanner drivers should be installed before plugging the scanner in. If
instructions say otherwise follow it.

Vista Scan is one of the applications that loaded.

Did the uninstall/reinstall to the extent of reformatting the drive on one
of the Win98SE computers. It could be a hardware problem but since there
are a 4 A2000Us I tend to discount that probability as the people who
donated the hardware said all 4 were working on their W95/98 computers when
they were removed from service.

I tried the driver only install and the full bore all bells etc install as
well, no joy even with the scanner software the only application (other then
IE6 and the OS)

Posting seeking alternative software options is a last ditch
'see-if-this-can-be-made-to-work' effort.

FWIW USB ports have been working on all other applications without
difficulty.

Any chance there could be a problem with the various security updates from
MS?

Yep each time I have to reinstall mine, Astra 4000U, it reverts to the
MS driver and I have to force the UMAX driver into the system and delete
the MS one.

So the moral to this is check the device manager and see which driver
its using.

Doubt it would be a security issue. Sometimes USB can be a real PIA at
times. The only other things I can think of is makings sure you have the
latest motherboard BIOS and chipset drivers. Any other updates from the mfg
as well.

If you have more than 2 USB jacks try a jack in the other set. The sets
should be on different IRQs. If not look in Device Manger and see if any
thing else is on the same IRQ as the USB port. If its a card maybe it can be
moved to another slot

Good Luck

Install the scanner through 'add hardware' and have the location of the
scanner software ready.
