Need CD burner software???

T

Tiny

I have an HP CD burner and the software that came with it is OK for
most jobs however I ran into a problem when I was transfering files
between computers using a rewritable CD. When I was finished
transfering files I tried to erase the files off of the CD and
couldn't do it. The HP software has an option to erase any existing
info on the disk before copying new info to the disk be that doesn't
happen. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer won't erase the files
either. Is there a freeware utility that will let me use the CD
burner with a rewritable CD as I would any other drive for storing,
moving, deleting files? If there isn't a utility is there freeware CD
burning software that lets the user erase files easily on a RW CD??
Thanks.

Are you using the correct software? If you are using CD burning
software, then you won't be able to delete the files, even if it is a CD-
RW. What you need is to format the CD-RW into the UDF packet format
using either DirectCD (Roxio) or InCD (Nero). Then you can move files
back and forth like a regular drive.

HP uses a proprietary version of Roxio's Easy CD creator.

SOS

In which case, OP might try a quick format on his CD-RW using Direct CD.
However, some HP drives (systems too?) came with RecordNow.

HP calls it Record Now. It does a good job of recording but a shitty
job of erasing.

One other thing. When you have a CD formatted in the UDF format, it can
be read (but not written to) natively by any computer that is running
Windows 2000 or XP. If you have an older OS, you can download a free UDF
reader. This is useful if you want to read the disk in another computer
that doesn't have a CD-RW drive.

Don't suppose you'd happen to have a URL for a freeware UDF reader?
