Need CD burner and DVD burner (ripper?)

Hi all:

I need a good free version for burning CD's. Plus, how does one "copy"
a DVD movie? Does it have to be done by section or can you use Disc
copy? What program will do this?

conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup
copy of any DVD video disc.

Query: Doesn't one have to be aware of their hardware/software's capacity
to copy in order to purchase the correct type of CD/DVD? For example:
some blank DVD's are DVD-R, others are DVD-W, blah, blah, blah.
If you get the incorrect type of blank DVD your hardware/software(?) may
not be able to use it. Could someone knowledgable of DVD copying/backing up
etc., explain ALL these little details to help those who aren't aware of such things?

You should also look at DVD decrypter

This would help you write the backup to a DVD
