NEED CAREER ADVICES ON MCSD

K

KEPLER

Hi, I'm 25 years old and I have already programmed in
C/C++ and Delphi... I am currently unemployed, and I
have all my time to learn new things .. my main question
is :

Can I get a good (interesting, paying, a job for a career
etc..) job with ONLY a MCSD .net as education ? and how
that MCSD can help/bring me to start a career?

I don't intend to do a full 4 years university degree
it's too long and I can't afford it at the moment .. but
I heard mcsd was pretty good, and I am the type of person
who learn by himself.. and I am really interested solely
in the .Net technology .. (don't want to do some C++
anymore or java etc...)

I wanted All your 2 cents on that ;)

Kepler

Thanks

My personal opinion is that having your MCSD isn't a make or break thing to
have on your resume. Many people look at people who have their MCSD as
people who know how to take a test and not necessarily people who know their
stuff.

I'm not discounting the MCSD program itself. It's just that if you can show
a perspective employer that you know your stuff, which they will find out
during the interview process, that's all you need.

Kepler,

I also agree with Scott.. But some notes on getting a degree. During the dot
com boom I was employed and developing software. I gathered plenty of
experience and knowledge for my CV/resume. Unfortunately I was unable to
find work after the company I was working for went bust - the main reason
given by all the potential opportunities was - no degree. When it comes to
software development it really helps to have this degree. Not only just for
the world to know about it - but for yourself.. By getting a degree (i.e.
comp sci or software engineering ) you get a better base for development.
You will also find (if you are a u.s. citizen) that its quite easy for you
to attend college.. practically for free if you play your cards right..
Moreover, most colleges have plenty of opportunities for you to find work.
Getting such a degree gives you a new look on things.. I know it has for
me.. Especially with the mathematics I learned.. It has improved my
programming skills significantly!

Just some fyi.. hope it helps out!

just go for it, the knowledge you will gather in the
process is worth the time and money. ignore the ney
sayers... What are you going to loose, $400 in the
process...

What are you going to loose, $400 in the process...

And a lot of time learning to take the tests, which most people do not pass
on the first attempt (so more time & money to take them again).

I'm not denying the good knowledge that the program can give you. I'm just
saying that many employers do not look at having or not having an MCSD as
they used to.
