I need a program that will identify a number of files by content and
automatically rename them so that the extension matches the result. I had
such a program some time ago, and it was freeware, but I can't find ti.
Please, help

Try FileId v2.7 by Sebastian Groeneveld:

www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bridge/1539/download/index.html

A bit outdated (from 2001), but it identifies some of the most common
formats and can rename with the /E switch.
