Since I have tried repeatedly with Norton to get an answer, maybe someone
out there has something better.
I upgrade my Norton Antivirus to 2003 on a Win2K Pro machine. Installation
when normally. After the final reboot I went to use my floppy disk drive
and got "A:\ not available Incorrect Function"
I looked on NAVs site and it is a known problem. I followed there
suggestions: Stop the on boot load of NAV and Scan of Email, then reboot.
Bingo, the floppy works fine. Then they say to recheck the boot load and
email scan and reboot the computer. The problem comes back, no floppy and
same error.
I then read that InCD could cause the problem. Since I rarely us InCD on
that machine, I first upgraded to the latest version, rebooted, but the
problem was the same. So I uninstalled InCD completely. (BTW I do not have
any other package they mention on there site on that computer). The
problem remained the same after rebooting.
I have written Symantec four times about this problem, and they keep
pointing me to their online help. I tell them I have already done that and
it does not help. They write back and tell me to do what is on their online
help. I feel I am talking to parrot!
The only thing I can do is leave the machine not loading NAV on boot and
then turning it one after everything is done. That leaves me open to boot
viruses, not good!!!!!
Can anyone tell me that they have seen this and have an answer other than
what Symantec has posted? Please!!!!
