NAT

Ian

Hi

I have configured my NAT on a 2000 server domain
controller to use a dialup connection. The problem I have
now is trying to get my XP browser to connect to the NAT
and dial the modem when I what to connect to the net.

Please help

I believe that NAT in Routing and RAS is for a STATIC and permanent
connection, not for dialup. If you want user to use this PC to share the
Internet connection, you have to use Internet Connection Sharing.

If you are using NAT to share a dial up connection, you need to create a
demain dial connection in RAS.

Hi Ian,

Assuming you have a nic in the 2000 machine, that nic should be plugged into a hub/switch.
The XP client machine should have a nic that is plugged into the same hub/switch. The
TCP/IP settings on the XP machine should have the nic of the 2000 machine as it's default
gateway.

Now the XP client should be able to get out to the Internet whenever the dialup connection is
active.

Thanks,
Gary

The demand dial is already setup in RAS

Surely using a x over cable is the same as going through a
switch. I only have 1 computer connected to the server and
a switch would be over kill.

Hi Ian,

A crossover cable is not the same as an ethernet connection to a hub. A hub is very chep,
$10-$15 for a simple 2-4 port hub. The crossover cable is not a supported configuration.

Hope this helps,
