NAT connection

I have setup a NAT server in Win2000 server and in the client's
gateway and dns i point it to the NAT server ip but it doesn't resolve
any address ? In the NAT server , i setup the LAN interface - >General
-> Public interface connected to internet. Is this correct ?

In addition, following that article, Daniel, assuming you installed DNS on
the NAT machine, point BOTH NICs to this DNS only and configure your
forwarding to the ISP as per that article. If DNS is not on this machine and
is a mahcine internally, then point ALL your machines, including your
clients, to the internal DNS and configure forwarding on that to your ISP's.
Resolution will be handled by your internal DNS that your AD structure uses
(assuming you are running AD).

Doesn;t that NAT have one name resolution using DNS for client ?

Rgds,

Daniel, NAT is JUST AN IP TRANSLATION SERVICE for converting public IP
addresses to a private IP address. It does NOT do name resolution nor does
it have anything to do with nameresolution. Host Name resolution is handled
by DNS.

Whatever DNS address you specified in your NIC's IP properties will be the
specific DNS server that will resolve names for that machine.

It doesn't matter what kind of server it is, even if it is a DNS server or
NAT server or DC or Exchange server, no matter what, you still need to
specifiy what DNS server YOU WANT to use for that machine in the machine's
IP properties.

ICS ?????

I thought you said you configured NAT??

You CANNOT have both services on one machine.

Can you explain EXACTLY please what you are trying to do? Your questions is
not very descriptive and

If you have AD running, you cannot use ICS.

A machine you have with two NICs is required for NAT. The DNS addresses in
both NIC's ip properties should only point to the internal DNS server and
from the internal DNS server, configure a forwarder to the ISP's DNS as that
articl shows you how to do.

I need to see the event ID #, and you're probably getting IPNATHLP errors,
but probably because ICS has a mini DNS proxy service and a mini built in
DHCP service. both of which will conflict with the real services that you
are using for AD.

If you have AD, please DO NOT USE ICS.

Ace, no such error. I'm not using ICS but RRAS nat. Also no AD. Only
have QOS RSVP error.

You said you were using ICS????

You are confusing me.

You still haven't posted the Event ID number. Please visit this site and
plug in the EventID # for more info:

NAT doesn't provide for name resolution like a "proxying service" does.
Follow the first article below for the DNS issues,...then follow the second
article to make sure that your RRAS/NAT is configured properly.

ICS is enabled in the NIC properties, under the sharing tab. NAT is enabled
in RRAS. Since you said you are in RRAS, I don't understand why you're
enabling ICS??

Daniel, just to clear it up, ICS and NAT are TWO SEPARATE services. They may
work similarly, but they are SEPARATE. Let's concentrate on your NAT
service, since that is what you need to configure. So let's not enable ICS.

Daniel, what is the SOURCE of the event ID?? This Event ID # 1003 and 26
have numerous sources.
Is it DHCP, or DHCPServer or one of the many others???
Check these two links here to see what I'm talking about:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1003+&source=
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=26+&source=

Daniel, we need to be more descriptive and offer a full explanation please.
It's becoming difficult to help.

Let's setup your NAT server correctly. Let's focus and concentrate on NAT.
Phillip offered the link on how to configure NAT.
I will repost it for you just in case you missed his post: Please don't
enable ICS.
