Naming changing columns?

I have been recording test results in a spreadsheet for some months. Each
test produces 2 columns of data (Weight & Size). I have, unfortunately,
been adding each new test on the left; i.e., I add 2 rows on the left.

Now, I want to produce a sheet that summarizes this data by month. The
problem is, of course, that the columns that contain a month's data change
every time I record a test. I thought I could use names, but I can't get it
to work.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that there are two columns for each
test. For the summary, I want averages; i.e., the current month's average
weight for a row includes A3,A5,A7,etc., while the average size includes
A4,A6,A8,etc.

Is there a way to make a summary sheet that does this?

Dick.

Your terminology is confusing!

ROWS are numbered and go from left to right, horizontally.
COLUMNS are lettered and go from top to bottom, vertically.

You *cannot* add 2 rows on the left!

You *cannot* have a month's average weight for a ROW in A3,A5,A7,etc.

Using correct nomenclature, would you care to describe exactly how your data
is configured?

Where are the dates situated, in relation to the weight and size?

Sorry, I obviously slipped acog.

Every test adds 2 *COLUMNS* on the left. And, there are two heading
columns, so the new columns are C1..n and D1..n.

Ergo, the weights to be averaged are in C1..n, E1..n, G1..n , etc., while
the sizes are in D1..n, F1..n, H1..n, etc. The first few columns are August
data, the next few are July, the next few are June, etc. There are
different numbers of columns in each month.

I want to end up with 2 columns for each month (weight & size), each
containing the corresponding average.

As a follow on question, is there a way to convert computed cells to contain
the computed values as numbers, so I can delete the original data from which
they were computed?

Dick.
