Hi all,

I can explain to someone else what a formula will do, but I find it hard to
apply a formula to a given situation.
In simple terms, I can read formulas no problem, but I have difficulty
writing them.

I was wondering if some of you could cast your minds back to when you were
learning, and possibly give me some advice, or a "trick" to help me know
which function to use and when to use it given a certain situation.

I hope that makes sence, I have been studying excel for a week now, and have
been having a bit of a time getting my head around using formulas.

Cheers

Andy

At the menu, Insert, Function, Click on Select Category Drop-down.
There the functions are grouped for you.
Select "a" group - only one group at a time; that should get you quite a
distance down the road.

Hi Andy!

Peter Noneley has a good resource on functions:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/noneley/

I've got Function Lists available on direct request to email below;
Descriptions, classifications, syntax, arguments and direct links to
Help.

Then there's John Walkenbach's Excel 2003 Formulas which gives
comprehensive coverage of formulas.

Hi all,

Just want to thank everyone who helped me out,
And thanks for putting me onto http://homepage.ntlworld.com/noneley/ Norman,
That site and dictionary REALLY helped.

Sat my Excel exam today and got a B+, pretty happy about that.

Once again, thanks :)
