Mystery Page Break

I'm working with a document from someone else, and I'm getting a page break
in the middle of a page that I can't figure out.

The document is set up using numbered multi-level headings, but I don't see
any "page break before" in any of the styles (and it's only happening in one
spot, not all the similar headings). There are no manual page breaks or
section breaks inserted, and I can't see any unusual paragraph markers -
there's just a simple paragraph marker after the last paragraph of one list,
then the next list starts on a different page.

What might I be missing here? I'd really like it to continue without the
page break but can't figure out what it is so I can delete it!

Did you also check for "Keep with next" formatting which might explain why
certain paragraphs are being moved to the following page (Paragraph dialog
box, Line and Page Breaks tab)?

If your document is basically an outline based on heading styles only, then
that's the problem. All the heading styles down to Heading 4 are formatted
as "Keep with next." If you're using them without any intervening body text,
then you need to remove this formatting from some of the lower-level heading
styles.

Thanks Stefan and Suzanne. I finally found it - I guess they had added "keep
with next" to a bunch of the paragraphs so eventually it forced the whole
thing onto a new page. Thanks for the help!

As Suzanne wrote, some of the built-in heading styles have that setting by
default. When you are using headings for an outline-numbered list (with no
"intervening" text), you should modify the heading styles to clear the
option.
