mysterious system hang

Weather I'm running any applications or not, after 5
minutes, my system will freeze for one minute, then
unfreeze for one minute, ad nauseum.
On the task bar, the only thing running is "System idle
process".
I've defragged and cleaned-up. I've unplugged and
replugged all the drives. The cooling fans are new and
clean.
No error messages.

Does anybody have any ideas?
