Myfiles lost!

Yesterday, my PC locked-up. Upon re-start, it promted me
for a 'User Name'. This is unusual as w2k always assumes I
am the user. I entered my normal log-in and hit OK. When
the GUI appeared it seemed to assume I was new user with
the 'Welcome to Windows' dialogue box. Also my normal
desktop layout was missing.

I have now lost all MYfiles and personal settings. Even
outlook assumes I'm a new user and wants me to set-up an
account. All my emails and addresses etc., have also
vanished.

I have now re-logged in as the administrator, and can see
all the users in explorer. A new account has been created
with a .BAK extension. My own files and settings are
missing from all accounts.

The strange thing is that apart from all myfiles and
setting going missind, everything else works OK!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might have
happend here?

Have a good look in "C:\Documents and Settings",
especially for hidden folders.

Thanks for that suggestion.

I tried that and almost thought I'd found some Word files
in the new .BAK directory that w2k had made. Unfortunately
they turned out to be links only to my original user
directories which of course no longer exsist!

Have you got any space left on the HDDs?

Cheers,

Cliff
