MyDoom

The reason for the proliferation of MyDoom and all worms, Trojans and
viruses is largely due to the total ignorance of the majority of computer
owners, none of whom would even look at this newsgroup, or if they did, they
simply wouldn't understand. I can only see three solutions:

1. Educate the public - impossible, because the majority are computer
illiterate and will remain so, despite the efforts of TV and the tabloids.
2. Make computers immune to virus attacks :)
3. Introduce a computer test, similar to the driving test, which would be
required in order to purchase a computer.

yeah in an ideal world all would be perfect but "to be human is to err"
your theory is tainted taking that if everyone took a test like a driving
test then there would be no probs, road casualties cancels that one don't
it?

Your top-posted semi-literate reply only confirms my worst fears.

The next version of Windows will carry (or offer) built-in Anti Virus.

When that is released, how long before they find a vulnerability and write a
virus to disable or get past the "built in" antivirus. I would never
consider purchasing antivirus made by microsoft.

The English oxford dictionary describes you (moron ) has a "very stupid
person" and a " adult with the mental age of 8-12" . Get a life and realise
(doh) that people are "real" and "do "make mistakes" and unlike "you "
(mister perfect) do make errors in this life . It must be painful being
perfect!

If it is impossible, then how is it a solution?

Are you suggesting TCPA or keeping the o-n / o-f-f switch in the
o-f-f position? ;o)

Good luck with pushing that option.

The right version of this is 'before you can go on-line on a public
network' .. just like for a car it's 'before you can drive on a public
road'. What you do off-line, or on your home LAN is of no
interest/danger to the general public.

Probably released about 2006, but as far as vulnerabilities go time
will tell.

Yes, I have argued for this before. It is similar to the radio
license that was needed here if you wanted to broadcast.
Once a chunk of spectrum was allocated for unregulated
citizens band operators ~ we saw what was good about
having regulations and licenses to revoke.

Spelling trolls take everything >>>too<<< seriously.

That is unproveable at this time.

....in the beginning there was virtually nothing, and then
computers caused the ether to bring forth all manner
of virtually everything.

Long live computers!

Ironic you should use that example;
cfr 47 part 95 class d operation was originally subject to licensing,
but, like herding cats, the task became impossible, license requirements
were dropped, and it became a huge polluted watering hole.
Have you listened to "Freeband" lately? ;-)

The problem though is not in New users, New computers or New tests
Its with the old computer setups, which will always be the hardest
group to bring into line, AV, FireWall etc

And then when its a completely perfect setup, a new virus will come
along

In theory the only way to prevent rogue traffic ( ie virus affected
emails ) is to detect and remove
But there in lies a fundemental problem - nobody has the right to
censor the traffic - a valid email with a virus attachment is itself
no danger to me, I just wont let the attachment have an effect
but I'd want the email to arrive

In the end its something we all just have to live with

Steve

I must have missed that one. When did MS include an AV with any of its
previous verions of the O/S?

Yay...

The "Operating System" will gain more built-in "features"...
