"MYDocuments" opens automatically

I have a new problem. Whenever we log into an account, XP automatically opens
the "MyDocuments" folder after showing the desktop. How do I stop this?

I can't access regedit. I think I had a virus and now must re-load XP?

If your AV program has found a virus, can't it be deleted from your hard
disk/partition?
