my xp home system now thinks its small business?

after a failed attempt to download an update, I can no longer open my excel
program because it asks for me to insert the XP small business CD. I have an
XP Home edition. Help!
 
There is no version of Windows XP called 'Small Business'. Perhaps you are
referring to the Small Business Edition of Office XP.

Isn't that obvious since he stated it happens when he
tries to open Excel? If you can't offer useful advice to
try to help him why point the small fault in the question?

Do you have your Office CD? Try inserting it when asked.
If that doesn't work try uninstalling the reinstalling it.
That's hoping of course that it allows you to use your
current copy of the media for uninstallation.
