Hello,

Im having this problem with my Windows XP Professional. Im using a IBM T43
notebook and i was able to ping to the (IP Address) of any internet address
but not the domain (example: www.yahoo.com).

Im facing this particular problem using dial-up and my (Wireless) connection
which is attached to my ADSL router. I do not have such problem when i was
using my previous HP notebook.

Please assist me on this as I've been facing this problem with the
connection for quite some time. I'm not using any firewall program & I've
even tried to format my notebook and restore its factory setting but yet the
same problem persist. Thank you.

If you can connect with an IP address but not name, check your DNS
settings. Try manually entering the correct ones.

Hello Malke,

Yeap indeed i've tried entering the DNS manually onto the network TCP/IP
setting but it still doesnt seems to work.

I have 2 router at home with 2 different ISP provider. I've tried on to
Router-A and it seems to work fine (which means i'm able to ping both to
internet IP and the domain name like www.yahoo.om) but when i've swapped the
connection setting to Router-B, the problem i've mentioned above happens
again. I've confirmed that all the ISP setting remains unchanged as i've
tested them on other notebook/pc and they're connecting fine. In fact, this
same problem happens when i'm connecting to dial-up as well.

It's quite weird that this problem only happens to my IBM T43 notebook (With
XP Pro) but it doesnt happen to my other PCs at home. Please advice.

Thank you.

Are you using IBM's network manager? Open it and see how you've set up
the profiles. It sounds like the IBM software is active and perhaps you
just don't know it. The network manager that comes with Thinkpads is
excellent.

Hello Malke,

Yeap, my notebook has this IBM Access connection manager whereby it can
actually configured your multiple network environment but i've disabled it
and used the default windows connection setting. Apart from that, i've
actually tried using both "IBM Access Connection" and later on tried on the
default Windows Network configuration but yet it isnt working..... :(

Go to Lenovo's tech support site for your specific model TP and download
any software updates to the Access Connection, drivers, etc. They also
have a very neat program that automates checking for updates. I did it
on my X31 and found it very helpful. As a note, I had to update the
Access Connection software after SP2.

Hello Malke,

Yeap, I've downloaded the latest software upgrade from IBM site recently.
Btw, i found out that whenever i doest a "nslookup" my default server ip
belongs to my company's DNS IP address. I believe this could be an issue
whereby it causes the connection problem to the internet.

For example:-
Default Server: pharmaad1.pharmaniaga.ad
Address: 10.2.1.21

I've tried to add in the new DNS setting provided by the ISP on the local
area network connection and "Dial UP" DNS setting but still the default
server remains as i've pasted above. I believe some rules are locking my
"DNS" on all the network connection which restrict me from connecting to the
internet. For your information, my company is running "Microsoft Active
Directory" and I have the full administrative function on my notebook. Please
advice.... Thanks !! :)
