my pointer has turned into a black square

When using excel and word my pointer has turned into a sold black square.
Nothing I try gets it back to normal. Does this have something to do with my
drivers? Can it be fixed pretty easy?
Help this is annoying.

Try banging the wheel a few times. If this doesn't;to work, try
re-installing drivers
