My Network Places not showing all computers in the workgroup

All computers running Windows 98 are showing up in My
Network Places on the Windows XP Pro machine but the XP
Pro machine doesn't. All the Windows 98 machines show the
XP Pro machine. Going into "View workgroup computers"
does show the XP Pro machine. The thing that puzzles me
is that it shows "Printers and Faxes" folder being shared
as well as Scheduled Tasks. These 2 folders are not
shared and I don't believe they can be shared. I can't
get these 2 folders out of there nor get the shared
folders to show up in My Network Places. Anyone have any
idea why this is happening?

Three things to look at:
Is the XP machine part of the same workgroup?
Is the XP machine's browisng service running?
Did you run through the network wizard on XP?

The XP machine is part of the workgroup. Not sure about
the browsing service. I would like some more info on that
if you would. I did run the wizard several times.

I'm having the same problem as another post on here about
clicking the shared folder in My Network Places and then
the computer coming up unknown. The XP machine is the
only one that does that.

Thanks

I had a similiar problem with two XP machines until I
set "computer browser" to automatic and started the
service on both computers.

To enable the service click start->run->then
type "services.msc" Scroll down to "computer browser"
and make sure it is set to automatic and started.

I believe the Network Location Awareness service is also
required.

Hope that helps.
