My Network Places Hanging

I recently reformatted my drive and reinstalled a fresh
copy of Windows XP Home. I installed all updates
including SP1.
Now I can access the internet through my home network,
but am unable to see the actual network. When I try to
view "My Network Places" the window hangs and I have to
end up ending the explorer.exe process to close the My
Network Places window.
I am completely baffled, and not sure what to do about
this. Any help / information would be greatly
appreciated.
