clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

From Start | Run does regedit open? If not that indicates a malware
infection.

That is not a thorough test for malware. Please either go through the
steps at the link I already gave you or post back with further details.
As Rock said, can you run regedit and task manager? What changed between
the times things worked and the time they didn't?
