My monitor has a red face

This morning when I got up and looked at the computer
screen, all the colors had a red cast. The monitor is an RGB
CRT. It's ten years old. (I got it when I moved to from
MS-DOS to Windows 95. The monitor is the last survivor of
that system.) Fooling around with the color controls, I
discovered that while I can adjust red and blue, moving the
green slider has no effect at all.

Am I correct in thinking that the green gun is dead? Is this
thing worth fixing? *Can* it be fixed?

Depending on how the "green" electron gun failed, the repair shop may
charge you more than replacing the crt. On the other hand if by "RGB"
you mean separate BNC inputs on the back, try swapping 2 of them and see
if the color changes. If color changes the problem isn't with the monitor.

Or maybe a cable isn't connected well. I was lucky and this was the case when
this happened for me.
