My LAN and service pack 2

I have noticed that when I setup my LAN at home, (two computers connected
with crossover cable) On my computer which has service pack 2, when I click
the status there doesn't appear to be much data transfer. I can access the
other computer which has service pack 1, and transfer files easily. The
network works fine but there is a little exclamation mark over the network
symbol on the taskbar. it says poor network connectivity. Could this have
anything to do with the mismatch in service packs?

No. There is no problem in networking between Windows operating systems
with various service pack levels. Try installing updated nic drivers on
the SP2 machine. Get the drivers from the nic mftr.'s website or from
the OEM's website if you have one of those machines (HP, Sony,
eMachines, etc.)

Also, remember that Service Pack 2 automatically enables the Windows
Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall, go to the
Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel and enable File & Printer
Sharing on the Exceptions tab. If you are using a third-party firewall
(and have properly configured it to allow your lan traffic as Trusted),
then turn the Windows Firewall off. You don't want two firewalls
running, and a third-party program will be better than the WF. All
firewalls must be properly configured to allow lan traffic as Trusted.
